About Field Friend

Field Friend is an app and website for location-based activities such as field-based learning, guided tours and treasure hunts. It is currently for use within a defined Unimelb cohort (ie, you need to register the targeted users into the Field Friend system). Use it to create and deliver media-rich activities for your students!

It comprises a website and a mobile app; the website is use for authoring and monitoring and the app is used for the actual activities.

The users

There are 3 types of users: administrators, coordinators and participants

Administrators are able to create new instances of Field Friend (eg, for activities within a particular subject) and assign one or more coordinators to manage each.

Coordinators author the activities, locations and media within their instance, manage its participants and monitor their progress.

Participants participate in the activities created by the coordinator. Eg, going on a field trip.

The app and the website

The app is solely used for taking users out on the various activities authored by the coordinators. All users experience the app in the same way - the app is only for participant use and has no authoring, management or monitoring functionality.

The website does distinguish between the various roles as listed above and provides different functionalities depending on your role in each instance
